# Introduction

> Read and write your facility's cars, customers, parking, marketing, communications, and appointments over a team-scoped REST API.

The Car Storage Software API gives a trusted system — your website, an inventory feed, an insurance export, or a custom integration — direct access to your facility's records.

Every request is scoped to **one team** by the API key it uses, and every key carries only the scopes you picked when you created it.

## Base URL

```text theme={null}
https://www.carstoragesoftware.com/api/v1
```

All requests and responses use JSON. Timestamps are ISO 8601 strings, and IDs are UUIDs.

## Quick start

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn on the API and create a key">
    A team admin opens **Settings → Integrations → API**, turns it on, and clicks **Create API key**. Copy the key right away; the full secret is shown only once. The [Connect the API](/docs/settings/connect-api) guide walks through it with screenshots.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make your first request">
    ```bash theme={null}
    curl https://www.carstoragesoftware.com/api/v1/cars?limit=5 \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $CSS_API_KEY"
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Explore the endpoints">
    Every endpoint in the sidebar has a playground. Paste your key under **Authorization** to send live requests against your own facility.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Using AI agents instead

If you want ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI assistant to work with your facility, you do not need to write code against this API. Use the [MCP connector](/docs/settings/connect-ai-agents-mcp), which exposes the same endpoints as tools with OAuth sign-in.

## OpenAPI specification

This reference is generated from the same schemas that validate every request, so field names, types, and required fields here always match the live API. Download the spec at [`/api-reference/openapi.json`](/docs/api-reference/openapi.json) to generate a client in your language.
